Hi, everyone! The school year is rolling right along, and I know many of us are already shelf-deep in library programming. My days have been busy with all the library management program tasks for September at work and writing and creating at home, but in the best way, and I wanted to share a few updates with you.

One big project I’ve been working on is my next book. It’s a guide written for new school librarians, or any librarian who could use a few extra tips and best practices. Over the years I’ve picked up some tricks, small routines, and ways of looking at the work that make things smoother, and I wanted to pull it all together in one place. Think of it as a resource, something you can flip through when you need reassurance or inspiration. It’ll be out mid-September, which is right around the corner.

I'm also finishing up the "BBITL October Choice Board," which I’ll be sharing next week. I'm excited to share several library centers with you, including a Jigsaw Puzzle Station, which is a calm but engaging option for grades 2 and up. Sometimes students need that mix of focus and fun, and puzzles hit the sweet spot. I'm including some of the station items here for your to try.

Not sure what a library center is or how to use it? Learn more about library learning centers in this American Libraries Magazine article, At the Center of Learning, which highlights how they can spark independence and engagement for students. There are six centers on the choice board. There are also activities for Hispanic Heritage Month, Halloween, digital literacy, and a few library skills sprinkled in.

Like many of you, I’m in the middle of long days filled with library routines, and I’ve been reminding myself to step back and breathe whenever I can. Even something as simple as eating lunch away from my desk helps keep me centered. I hope you’re giving yourself those breaks, too. Don't forget to take your breaks and drink plenty of water.

Here’s to making the most of this busy season and giving our students a year in the library they won’t forget.
